We all want our kids to be brought up well educated in order to set them up with not only a decent career, but to bequeath them a solid understanding of the world so they can make the most of their lives. And there appears to be this endless conflict of separating your kids from their playthings or the gogglebox in order to get them to do their homework. In schools it would appear that the playfulness is withdrawn from studying, so little wonder kids spend their time daydreaming in school. There is a solution however! Rather than this false dichotomy of learning and playing, it’s better to blend the two up so kids can enjoy studying.

Kids will study much more when learning is a whole bunch of fun, OR if they visualize a practical purpose as to why they’re learning a particular lesson. The former is often a lot easier than the latter.

An example: tell the children to think of a birthday cake, and 5 friends. So how much cake should each friend get? Tell them to draw the cake, and cut out a slice for each person. They’re not even aware they’re learning fractions.

These days, it’s now realized that once you introduce a subject to a child in an enjoyable way (e.g. geography), children are a lot more likely to take an interest in it later on. If the alternative is to simply force them to attend a lesson, have them face a chalkboard, and then tell them to listen to the teacher waffling on, the chances are you’re encouraging daydreams rather than instilling interest in the subject.

In terms of toys, what to get the kids? These days there’s a massive range of toys. Bear in mind that youngsters have fun playing with almost anything, even bubble wrap! So anything from traditional toys to party games for children, so long as the focus is on learning and helping your children to become more inquisitive (which boosts self-learning).
