In Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments, poker players get eliminated as their stacks erode down to nothing. A player sitting on the short stack at the table only has one move - to go all-in. Most players don’t view short stacks as a threat; when in fact, a short stack is a very dangerous presence at the table.
Always be aware of short stacks and their position in the betting order. You need to be very selective about betting ahead of a short stack. Do not enter a pot unless you are prepared to match the short stack should that player decide to shove all-in. But there is more consider than just matching the short stack’s all-in bet.
When the short stack finally does shove, other online poker players may move to isolate the short stack. You might be prepared to match the short stack’s bet, but are you willing to match a big over-bet from a bigger stack that attempts to isolate the short stack? It is not just the short stack’s chips you could go up against, you must recognize that you may have to call a much bigger bet when the short stack does finally shove.
Do not ignore the short stacks as non-threatening to your bigger stack when you play poker online. A short stack shove could seriously undermine your own stack when there are bigger stacks betting behind too.
