Make sure to check out our very good site for Sydney Botox costs advice!

Botox is fast becoming the latest thing in Sydney society and has become an essential part of a beauty routine for those in Sydney. Nevertheless I am often surprised by the various myths which surround this simple procedure. Here I have listed some of the common stories which we come across day in day out at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a physician.

Fallacy Number 1: I will lose the ability to express emotion!

Research indicates there are sixty or so muscles under the skin of your face. They ordinarily perform harmoniously, however with time expression lines may form. Too many doses of Botulinum Toxin can result in the muscles of the face becoming a little less taut. The dose used by most physicians make you appear ‘refreshed’, but still you will maintain your normal expression.

So a carefully calculated quantity of Botox in the proper site means an expressive face is retained whilst any fine lines are minimised.

Fallacy Number 2: Botox is a toxin!
There is some truth in this argument. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the proper medical nomenclature. Too great a quantity may end up in a decrease in muscle tone or can make one really sick.

But to help us understand the reality of the situation - a well-known pharmacy expression is that ‘everything is a poison - it all depends on the dose’. All medicinal drugs can make you sick in big enough doses. In fact water can be fatal if enough is taken.

Fallacy Number 3: Botox hurts!
The hypodermic needles used at Star Cosmetic Medicine have a diameter smaller than a human hair. A lot of people have stated that the injections are not worse than being bit by a mosquito. Certainly not as painful as getting a vaccination.

Fallacy Number 4: I will lose feeling in my face!
False. Botox acts on the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, and not on sensate nerve fibers. Botox just affects the ability to relax muscles.

Fallacy Number 5. You have to keep having Botox or you will get even worse wrinkles than ever!
Once More this is simply incorrect.

BoTox is believed to last for up to 3 months. Subsequent treatments tend to last longer. The wrinkles will gradually return as the muscle returns to normal. Nevertheless your lines certainly will not be any worse than before the treatment started.

As A Matter Of Fact the wrinkles should be be softer than if you hadn’t had Botox treatment - even when you never repeat the therapy. This, of course is primarily the case due to the fact your facial muscles and skin have had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ during the treatment.
