It’s nothing but the best for Jay-Z: The music mogul celebrated his 40th birthday in style last week - thanks to his wife, Beyonce.

The Grammy-nominated singer planned a star-studded surprise party for her hubby and invited 50 of his closest pals, including Diddy, Kate Hudson, A-Rod, Kanye West and Alicia Keys.

DJ Cassidy spun tunes at the bash held at the Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic. The party, which had a 1940s theme, included a fireworks show and two dance floors.

At the fete, Jay-Z and Keys sang an impromptu version of their hit song, “Empire State of Mind,” and West gave a toast to his friend, the birthday boy.

Beyonce is the top rated female artist in R&B/Hip Hop according to Billboard’s recently released year end review.

Landing a total of ten charted titles, Beyonce bested strong year end numbers for Keyshia Cole (”A Different Me”) (9), Keri Hilson (”In A Perfect World”) (8), Jennifer Hudson (”Jennifer Hudson”) (4) and Jazmine Sullivan (”Fearless”) (6) with the 2008 album “I Am Sasha Fierce”. Releasing over five singles in 2009, Beyonce reached fans through hits like “Diva,” “Ego,” “Halo,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “Video Phone”.

In related news, Beyonce has more than doubled attendance records previously seen on her 2007 tour “The Beyonce Experience”. According to Boxscore, Beyonce’s “I Am” Tour, kicked off Spring of 2009, has drawn some 667,509 fans, grossing $53.5 million. While the tour has wrapped up in North America, Beyonce has dates remaining through early 2010, including stops in South Africa and Brazil.
